This week's theme is brought to us by the Big W, also known as "mom" or "wife," depending on which photog you ask. She was so inspired to suggest the following theme...
Looking Up.
Wendy says that we spend so much of our lives looking down at what's below our feet, isn't it time we took a moment to observe what was above our heads. With that - up up and away we go.

More purple
I couldn't decide which I liked better so uploading this one too. I like the stark edge of the flowers against the little sprout. Hope he makes it, even if he's a weed...
What's a flower
I wasn't super impressed with my purple options this week, so ended up with some pansies. This shot is from right outside of my office. I've always found it ironic they built a steel flower in the middle of the courtyard JUST IN CASE you didn't notice the other flowers around you.
Factoids: Experimented with the 35mm lens this week. The light meter wasn't working, however, so shot this totally in manual relying on my know-how and the histogram. Glad it came out alright!

Purple Jesus
Saw these 7 young girls in a park across from the Metro Toronto Convention Ctr. They very kindly agreed to pose for this "purple" shot. They were participating in a "Jesus" conference at the Convention Center. I did enhance the purple in their shirts in Lightroom. Pretty neat !!

Weekly Theme #1
Dad and I discussed on Tuesday night, and we agreed to have a theme this week. Not sure if this fits the original idea of the "Weekly Challenge" or not, but whatever. This week, like Iron Chef's secret ingredient, we must take a picture of...
Purple.
This should be interesting.

Red Rock Canyon
My favorite landscape shot from the weekend in Vegas. I feel like I'm sitting on the rock looking at it. Wish it was a little brighter, but I like the shadows. Feel that they add a "heavy" feel. However, now that I know how to use the AE-lock and all the other jazz, I'll be sure to capitalize. :)
Location:
Red Rock Canyon, High Desert, NV, USA

Yellow Tulip
Took this in Mom's back garden in bright afternoon sun around 3PM, EV 16. Bracketed the exposure +/- 1 stop. This was the best shot - at right exposure w some contrast increase. Used my fancy carbon fiber tripod and the Sigma 105mm Macro lens.

Medusa Cactus
Saw this guy while in Arizona for Tanya and Nick's wedding. I suppose I've sort of cheated as that was a few weeks ago, but cut me some slack - just figured out how to get the pics off the new DSLR.
The photo might be a little overexposed in the back right corner, but I like the glow that it creates. Plus, I'm enjoying the perspective of the shot and the shadows in front.
