Amon the Egyptian god.

Another SLC farmer's market pic. I thought the pumpkin stem kind of looked like some kind of animal - possibly an ancient Egyptian god?? Taken with my Tamron all purpose tele zoom at 110mm, ISO 400, 1/90, f 9.5.

Guess who?

This was taken this weekend at the Salt Lake City farmers market. Either person look familiar?

Evening Commute

Afternoon Commute, originally uploaded by LK824.

Taken from through the bus window, my ride home across the Roosevelt Bridge every night. The sun's hitting the Georgetown waterfront as the Potomac River snakes west. Not having to go underground to get home kind of makes my days seem a lot better.

Fall is coming...

Fall is coming..., originally uploaded by LK824.

These leaves were caught a few days ago on a walk back from the grocery story. Love the golden hue against the green leaves still left on the trees. Nothing is like a New England (or Upstate NY...!) fall, but this brings back the memories.

The New Neighborhood

The New Neighborhood, originally uploaded by LK824.

Alright - getting back to this challenge. You ready, Dad?

I saw this flower late in the afternoon while walking around my new 'hood. Seeing the flowers big and beautiful, while awesome, is a reminder that the season is almost up. There isn't much more growing these guys can do. But it's not all sad - the cycle, and the start of a new season, is definitely a reason to celebrate.

Took this on my iPhone with the Hipstamtic App set to the Johnny filter. Lovin' the contrast and the dark corners.

Cape Sky at Sunset

The black/grey make a nice contrast with the orange reflection of the sun. I can see the face of Pluto ( the dog) on the right side!

Sunken Meadow Beach Sunset

If you look closely the silouette of Ptown is just visible on the horizon.

Nauset Marsh Lobster Pot Marker

Taken from our kayak (very careful not to drop the camera in !!) I really like the green color of the water.

DC Series 1: Part 2

Lincoln1, originally uploaded by LK824.

The second of the first DC series. Taken from the VA side of the Potomac around 7:45pm on my way home from a bike ride. Love, love the sun at this time of day on the monuments.

DC Series 1: Part 1

Capitol1, originally uploaded by LK824.

First of a two set series on a beautiful week in DC. And playing with the Hipstamatic app on my iPhone. :) First shot - the Capitol!

Generations

Generations!, originally uploaded by LK824.

This photo has been a long time coming. I snatched a pic of some family members on the DC Metro. Kids will be kids, right?

Cayuga Chevrolet

Saw this old Chevy on the way back from Ithaca on Rt 89. Not sure what year it is, maybe 1952.

Ying Yang

This should look familiar. Mom's bowl in the porch at sunset. Mom thought the shadow made it look like the ying yang symbol.

Circles

Circles, originally uploaded by LK824.
This past week's challenge was "circles" as chosen by JK. Took this photo of some magnets I made for Merry's bridal shower next weekend. A double DIY project - favors AND photo! The overcast sky didn't give much ambient light, so turned on some lamps and ended up with shadows and highlights.

Cars

Car1, originally uploaded by LK824.
The last weekly challenge we had was WAY too long ago, so we're finally getting our "car" photos up. This is Mom's car as I was walking in from unsuccessfully shooting Joey's car in the driveway. I kind of like how it ends up being a little self portrait of me in the front yard. Really like how the sky stayed blue around the Chevy logo.

Signs

Up1, originally uploaded by LK824.
Took this photo while up in NYC this past weekend. This little rundown hotel was just hanging out on the side of the West Side Highway, overlooking the water. I certainly don't want to know what goes on around here at night, but compared to the "razzle dazzle" of other areas of New York, this image almost doesn't fit.

Weekly Theme #2

This week's theme is brought to us by the Big W, also known as "mom" or "wife," depending on which photog you ask. She was so inspired to suggest the following theme...

Looking Up.

Wendy says that we spend so much of our lives looking down at what's below our feet, isn't it time we took a moment to observe what was above our heads. With that - up up and away we go.

More purple

Purple 2, originally uploaded by LK824.
I couldn't decide which I liked better so uploading this one too. I like the stark edge of the flowers against the little sprout. Hope he makes it, even if he's a weed...

What's a flower

Purple 1, originally uploaded by LK824.
I wasn't super impressed with my purple options this week, so ended up with some pansies. This shot is from right outside of my office. I've always found it ironic they built a steel flower in the middle of the courtyard JUST IN CASE you didn't notice the other flowers around you.

Factoids: Experimented with the 35mm lens this week. The light meter wasn't working, however, so shot this totally in manual relying on my know-how and the histogram. Glad it came out alright!

Weekly Theme #1

Dad and I discussed on Tuesday night, and we agreed to have a theme this week. Not sure if this fits the original idea of the "Weekly Challenge" or not, but whatever. This week, like Iron Chef's secret ingredient, we must take a picture of...

Purple.

This should be interesting.

Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon, originally uploaded by LK824.
My favorite landscape shot from the weekend in Vegas. I feel like I'm sitting on the rock looking at it. Wish it was a little brighter, but I like the shadows. Feel that they add a "heavy" feel. However, now that I know how to use the AE-lock and all the other jazz, I'll be sure to capitalize. :)

Medusa Cactus

Medusa Cactus, originally uploaded by LK824.

Saw this guy while in Arizona for Tanya and Nick's wedding. I suppose I've sort of cheated as that was a few weeks ago, but cut me some slack - just figured out how to get the pics off the new DSLR.

The photo might be a little overexposed in the back right corner, but I like the glow that it creates. Plus, I'm enjoying the perspective of the shot and the shadows in front.

Happy Birthday, Dad!

Welcome to your birthday present, Dad! You have until Sunday to stretch out, loosen up, and basically prep your 365-day game. I'll see you on Friday to give you the tutorial. Until then, here are is a then-and-now shot.... just for fun. Let's make it a goal of this year to get a good photo of the two of us, okay?
